hold my heart

there's my heart: lying on the sofa, resting before the long night ahead, after all these years, he's still the only one for me there's my heart: out with his girl, showing off his truck, tall and thin, just like his dad, in more ways than one there's my heart: 1600 miles away, watching tv with her soldier, beautifully strong and amazingly wise for her age there's my heart: hidden inside his mommy's tummy, sitting up, of course waiting to make his grand entrance, very soon how will i ever sur… Continue

counting down

tricia's baby boy, gavin, is due in 29 days. there's just one little problem. he's sitting up, facing her back. so, as of right now, she is scheduled for a c-section on the 11th of September. and, that day is only 25 days away. the weekly ultra-sounds, the twice-weekly non-stress tests, the visits to the doctor, all of these things she does to take care of her precious cargo. and the prayers, always the prayers. wednesday, this week, she & ryan are going to try to convince the doctor to move… Continue

rebellion fanatics

went to church last night. there were about 20 people there. the music was loud and there were lights and smoke. and we got t-shirts that say "rebellion fanatics" a little group of high school kids that came to church on a friday night. the pastor invited our friend tony to give his testimony. Pastor Ezekiel was so happy that we came. he had tony ride his bike up to the altar. he had the kids help david push his bike up the front steps and into their little front lobby. and afterwards they all c… Continue

some days are Sundays

Sundays used to be different. Get up early, get dressed up, get the kids dressed, fix breakfast, pile in the car, go to church, sing and clap, listen to the pastor, talk to friends, come home, fix lunch, watch TV, fix dinner, get dressed up again, go to church again, sing and clap, listen to the pastor, talk to friends, come home, fix a snack, put the kids to bed.... whew! what a day! Now, Sundays are: sleep in until 9, get up and make coffee, turn on my computer, check my email, read some devo… Continue

bye bye baby

'don't be melodramatic,' the drama queen says to me, as I try to hide the tears in my eyes and the giant, her husband, pats my back reassuringly have I told them to be careful, and to call when they get there, and to watch the roads, and that I love them, and to be careful? all the words I know cannot say what I feel, how proud I am of how they've grown, and yet how I wish they were still little, so I could protect them from the world and all it's hurts and trials but I can't. I never could, s… Continue

in God's hands

ever since my daughter tricia met her husband ryan, i have felt like their lives were on a God-directed timetable. things that seemed like they should only take a short time, would take twice as long. things that seemed like really bad timing, worked out okay. Examples: ryan decided to join the army, but he had to get his weight down. he worked out and ran and cut back on his calories at the time, we thought it was bad timing because he wouldn't be able to be here for Colton's birth. But GodContinue

365 days....

it is november 1. this is going to be a good month, i'm claiming it in faith. It has to be, ryan will be coming home for 2 weeks leave on the 21st. so my daughter will be happy, which makes me happy. and i kind of miss the kid (ha ha). but, it has to be good for another reason. because the end of the month will be hard. every month, on the 30th, it has been hard, but this is the one-year anniversary. i can't hardly believe it's been one year already. so much has changed in a year. David's favorite song lately

I’m On Tour Verse 1 I’m on tour through this world, I’m merely passing by. For the things that I see, Somehow they don’t satisfy. But this journey soon shall end, And God’s trumpet’s gonna sound And I’ll be leaving for paradise… Chorus Well I’m on tour through this world, This could never be my home. I already have a mansion Right beside my Master’s throne I can see the cloud a’ coming, I can hear that trumpet sound. For this tour is nearly ended, And I’m pressing homeward bound. Verse 2 Well… Continue

and so it goes...

September was a rough month, starting with our car accident. (see previous blogs...) And, now October doesn't seem to be starting any better. On Friday evening, I came home from work to find some papers on my kitchen table. I looked at them and they didn't make any sense to me. I looked at them again, and then asked my son where they had come from. he tells me they were taped to our front door this morning. I looked at them again, and then it became clear. the house we are renting is in foreclos… Continue

John 14:27

Don't Lose Your Joy Everyday there are opportunities in life to get upset and loose your joy and peace. There are many things that can steal your joy – people, traffic, disappointments. But if you are going to live in victory you have to have to choose the right approach to life. It’s good to have plans, but submit your plans to God and decide in advance to stay in peace no matter what happens. The Scripture says, “No man can take your joy.” That means no person can make you be unhappy. No… Continue

I Peter 1:1-5

(1) Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, (2) Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied. (3) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Chris… Continue

learning....

I went to a class today on Excel. good class, good teacher. sometimes, when you go to these 1-day classes, you run the risk of getting either a really boring teacher, or someone who actually holds your interest. this one was pretty good and I learned some things that I think will make my spreadsheet plethora more bearable. (plethora is a 50-cent word, anyone know what it means?) so anyway, this teacher had some little "words of wisdom" that he dispersed along with the course content, no extra c… Continue

football season

tonight is the first night of Monday Night Football. now, this could be good and it could be bad. I don't mind football, but I can't watch it all the time. and sometimes I just get bored by it. BUT when Dancing with the Stars starts, it's going to be a fight for the remote! because that show bores David. lol i thought I was done with my house. a month ago, we signed the papers and sent them in. a deed in lieu of foreclosure. today, i get a letter saying that they're not going to process it beca… Continue

monday, monday, can't trust that day

i know it's Sunday, but i've got Monday on the brain! for one thing it's a holiday! hurrah for Labor Day! the official last holiday of summer. which is bad news for kids going back to school, but good news for parents who can't wait for kids to go back to school! it's good news to me because it means the weather should start to get cooler soon. it's california so there's no guarantees, but it's still good. so yesterday was a busy day. got up and shampooed the halls and the living room. I mean t… Continue

wednesday the 27th

so the other night I took my pre-test and didn't actually do too awful on it. I've got one week to study all the areas (5) that I really was lost in. because on the 4th, I go to Fresno to take the real test. And if I don't pass, I get one more try before the end of September. such fun. (sarcasm) then i get an email from my dad about my uncle bill being in the hospital. "spots" on his lungs and brain. i guess you get "spots" before you get tumors? I don't know. I just know it hit me pretty hard.… Continue

a slice of my life

this morning I got a phone call from my mentor at WGU. WGU is Western Governors University which is the online college I attend to get my bachelor's in accounting. He basically told me that I am slacking. So, here's what my life is going to be like for the next 5 weeks: I have to finish an assignment that involves corporate income tax, carry-forwards of losses and gains and S-corporation income tax. That must be completed and graded by Aug. 31. I have to schedule a test on Intermediate Account… Continue
