I Dare You To Pray

ever since my daughter tricia met her husband ryan, i have felt like their lives were on a God-directed timetable. things that seemed like they should only take a short time, would take twice as long. things that seemed like really bad timing, worked out okay. Examples: ryan decided to join the army, but he had to get his weight down. he worked out and ran and cut back on his calories at the time, we thought it was bad timing because he wouldn't be able to be here for Colton's birth. But God has perfect timing because when Colton was stillborn, it was at just the right time for ryan to come home on emergency leave.

when ryan went back to boot camp after Christmas leave, he had lots of free time. this gives him time to grieve for his son and he has to get through it with just him and God.

he gets through boot camp and goes to AIT. while at AIT, he gets bit by a brown recluse spider. again, he's taken off physical activity and starts worrying about passing the physical tests to graduate. but God takes care of him, he graduates and he gets to come home for 30 days of home recruiting.

just when he's about to leave for his duty station, he gets sick and is in and out of 3 different hospitals over the course of a week. and then in the local hospital for another week. guess what? staph infection from the spider bite. ends up being home almost a month. but God takes care of him again and he and tricia go to Texas together and get another month together before he brings her back home as he's being deployed to afghanistan.

God is good and keeps him safe while he's there, but he does have some minor injuries, like a concussion, tearing his MCL (knee injury) and some shrapnel in his leg. he gets to come for his leave just in time for Thanksgiving (thank you God) and more importantly, Colton's first birthday. then his knee goes out. a trip to the emergency room and they think his miniscus is torn. doctor orders physical therapy and an MRI to see how bad it is and if he needs surgery. so guess who's still here and not on his way back to afghanistan?

which, by the way, gives them more time to work on Colton's baby brother or sister. I look back over the past 2 years and I am amazed at how often God's perfect timing brought peace and healing to these 2 young people. I see His hand on them, even in tragedy, even in the little things, even in "coincidence." it's just, awesome.

Isn't it amazing?! God certainly has us all in His hands. He knows what's best for us, even when we don't. . .or "think" we do! Father God, may Your blessings be all over this family this wonderful miraculous season. Shine on them, and fill them with Joy overflowing! Amen.
