went to church last night. there were about 20 people there. the music was loud and there were lights and smoke. and we got t-shirts that say "rebellion fanatics" a little group of high school kids that came to church on a friday night. the pastor invited our friend tony to give his testimony. Pastor Ezekiel was so happy that we came. he had tony ride his bike up to the altar. he had the kids help david push his bike up the front steps and into their little front lobby. and afterwards they all came out and took pictures sitting on the bikes - david's, tony's and gary's. (I wish mine hadn't been in the shop!) but the really cool thing, the thing that just made the whole evening amazing, was the passion these kids have for Christ. during praise & worship, they were singing, clapping and jumping for Jesus. the pastor's sermon was about rebelling against what society thinks is normal. it's twisted now --homosexuality, drugs, drinking is all considered normal. and the rebels are these kids who love Jesus. they're starting a 40-day challenge. a 40-day journey to get closer to Christ, to seek Him and His path for their lives. And at the end of the service, the pastor asked anyone who wanted to, to come up and pray. they all went up - every single one of them. went to the altar and got on their knees and prayed. One young girl, the pastor told us, comes to the church at 6 every morning to pray. her family doesn't want her going to church. she gets in trouble for going. but she goes anyway. and the joy of the Lord is in her, you can see it, almost touch it. just an amazing group - an amazing service. and i was so glad that we got to go and pray with those kids. to see Jesus touching hearts and changing lives. to feel His love fill that little church.
by the way, the name of the church: the Salvation Army.
they're Soldiers too!
